Apple Listens: Iconic Safari Feature Returns to macOS and iPadOS
In a rare move that highlights Apple's responsiveness to user feedback, the tech giant has officially restored a beloved Safari browsing feature. After its controversial disappearance in the initial releases of macOS Tahoe and iPadOS 26, the Compact Tab Bar has made its triumphant return.
The feature was originally removed following the massive Liquid Glass interface redesign. While the redesign aimed for a futuristic aesthetic, many power users felt the loss of the compact mode hindered their productivity. Now, with the release of macOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4, the choice is back in the hands of the users.
Restoring Functionality: How to Enable It
Restoring the classic layout is straightforward. For Mac users, simply open Safari, navigate to Settings, and under the Tabs section, you will find the toggle to switch back to the "Compact" layout. On iPad, the option is located within the system Settings app under the Safari preferences, allowing you to reclaim valuable screen real estate instantly.
This update comes as part of a broader push to stabilize the system, following emergency security patches like the DarkSword fix that recently protected the ecosystem from silent exploits.
