Siri Evolves: A Standalone AI Hub for iOS 27
The virtual assistant we once knew is disappearing. Apple is reportedly preparing a massive architectural shift for Siri, turning it into a standalone application with iOS 27.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the new Siri will mirror modern chatbots, offering a dedicated text interface and a persistent Conversation History. This marks the end of the "floating bubble" era and the start of a deep-integrated AI productivity tool.
The "Extensions" Marketplace
The most disruptive feature is "Siri Extensions." Apple plans to open the system to third-party Large Language Models (LLMs). Users will be able to plug specialized AI services directly into Siri, allowing different neural networks to collaborate on a single task.
Key Innovations:
- AI App Store: A dedicated section for downloading AI plugins.
- Cross-App Context: Siri can now "read" and "act" across third-party apps via unified extensions.
- Hybrid Processing: Leveraging on-device Neural Engines and Private Cloud Compute.
Release Timeline
While Apple Intelligence already supports ChatGPT, iOS 27 will expand this to dozens of providers. A developer beta is expected in June 2026, with a public rollout in the Fall. Note: Advanced features may require the latest "M" or "A" series chips with enhanced NPU capabilities.
